A Rose in Winter by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss

5 stars

I found the book to be highly entertaining. The author, Kathleen Woodiwiss, did an amazing job of being able to capture a character and putting them through multiple different settings. It still amazes me that the characters go from being on a boat in New Orleans with the focus being on gambling, to the gaming hells of San Francisco, to the heroine being captured in a house in the remote part of the country, and finally to a daring train ride and a tale of mystery and intrigue. The author's penmanship and word usage are fantastically incorporated and the characters are extremely likable. I say that overall, this novel was very well written and captured the spirit and essence of the time.
