Note:
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Lourdes
becomes the new maven of the Araneidae clan after her
parents are poisoned. Not only that but
she also makes a deal to accept Rhys, a Mimetidae
clansman, as
her partisan aka husband to
protect the safety of her clan.
As the
main character, Lourdes has a strong sense of duty towards her clansmen and a
loyalty to protect them and do whatever she must to save them. Her character attributes help her make the right
decisions and strive for loyalty ultimately helping her in her relationship
with Rhys. Alternatively, Rhys comes off
as a man’s man but deep down he has a caring side that he shows to Lourdes
right away. He puts his trust and faith
in her and allows her to lead. The
sexual tension between Lourdes and Rhys was pleasantly palatable throughout the
whole work.
The
hard part about the book for me was getting all of the names and different
types of characters straight. In the beginning
getting trust into a different type of world and not knowing what anything
meant was hard to figure out. Ultimately
the author did a good job explaining what things were and how things ran in the
different clans.
