Review: Forbidden

Forbidden
Forbidden by Nicola Cornick

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

3.5 stars

I like Margery all along in the other books and I was very happy she ended up with her own story. The overall story was interesting and Henry was a great hero for her. I am glad this series ended on such a happy note and that this one involved a little murder mystery making the whole thing that more exciting

Review: Desired

Desired
Desired by Nicola Cornick

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

3.5 stars

Tess had been scandalously married three times but not for the reasons the ton thought. The ton characterized her As a whore and she was farther from that than anyone realized. Now having her own reasons to marry again she chooses the perfect candidate in Owen purchase, lord Rothbury, who she finds can help her more than she knows.

I actually liked this book better than the other ones in the series so far. I liked how far off everyone of the ton was about Tess and the upstanding character Owen portrayed to her. This book certainly caught my interest.

Review: Night Play

Night Play
Night Play by Sherrilyn Kenyon

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Vane and his brother fang are in trouble. After the death of their sister Anya and her puppies due to the fact that vane helped the dark hunters their father banishes them from the clan. Vane must now find a way to protect himself and his brother from being hunted down by their father but along the way he meets bride, a human, and finds out the hard way that she just so happens to be his mate. Now he has just three weeks to convince her to accept him of else he might loose the chance of ever having a mate.

It is nice that Kenyon is able to write about the everyday woman. Bride is by no means the sought after romanticized version of what a woman should be, she just is herself. I loved how vane animalistic nature is so protective of her and it really shows how much he cares in his attitude towards her.

This enchanted world that Sherrilyn Kenyon has developed for readers is truly unique and inspiring. In this novel she once again does not disappoint.

Kenyon inspires a wide range of different characters of all shapes and sizes while going out of the box to make each one unique. All of her characters are liable and really to the every day person. Vane takes charge in a way no other man could as he develops feelings for Bride beyond his control.

I love how characters from the previous books appear and add to the story. Especially Ash and Simi, they just make every book more enjoyable to read!

Review: Uglies

Uglies
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

All Tally ever wanted was to be pretty. That is exactly what she gets when she turns sixteen, there is a catch though, Special Circumstances wants her to find her friend Shay who escaped before becoming pretty. As Tally embarks on the adventure of her life there is a deep secret rooted in the New Pretty town and Tally has to figure out a way to stop the corruption.

I thought this was a really interesting concept and I liked the characters. Tally did start to get annoying about half way through the book, especially with her insta-love reaction and swooning style when she was around David. I am interested to see what happens next and what other secrets New Pretty Town has to reveal.

Review: Masque of the Red Death

Masque of the Red Death
Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

2.5 Stars

A plague has broken out among the masses and the only way to survive catching the disease is to wear a mask. Araby’s father invented the masks and with her privileged life she is just going through the motions until she finds something she actually wants to live for.

I don't know how to feel about this. Parts of it tugged at my heart and then other parts I just wanted to skip altogether. I really preferred the romantic relationship between Araby and Will; I did not like Elliot at all. I was kind of reading the book solely for the parts with Will in them and besides those I really did not enjoy reading the rest of the story. On the other hand the overall concept caught me and made me keep thinking.

I am not sure if I want to continue on with the story, this is going to take a little more reflection.

Book Review: Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires, #1)

Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires, #1)Glass Houses by Rachel Caine

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Claire has always been smart and this got her into college at the age of sixteen. With overprotective parents her only choice is a small town college in Morganville. Little did she know the secrets the ancient town possesses and she finds out more than she bargains for when she is unexpectedly thrust into the lives of Michael, Shane, and Eve.

The author did a great job setting the scene and making Claire's bullying out to be something just about monstrous. I felt the concept and execution of the story was well done and the vampire town was explained well.

Claire was a great character. She was spunky without being overconfident in herself and her abilities yet she was able to stand up for what she wanted. I really liked Shane even though he had a standoffish personality at first there was nothing getting past his sweater side. Michael was more of an issue for me, overall I liked him but his standoffish character went beyond my acceptable limits although he did redeem himself in my mind. Eve was just spunky and cool; she seemed like someone I would want to hang out with.

I would recommend this book to vampire lovers.

Book Review: City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

2.5 stars

In the first book of the Mortal Instrument series Clary is astounded to find she can see things other people can’t. With the help of Jace and the rest of the Shadow hunters Clary has to discover her past to protect everyone’s future.

From first reading the Internal Devices prequel series I really expected more from this one. It might be that the Victorian era was more sophisticated than the modern era but I found the writing style in City of Bones to be immature and weak. I was completely surprised by the characters that I found lacking in well-roundedness and knowledge, unlike I found from Internal Devices. I will strive to continue on with the series just to see what happens and I am interested in watching the movie but I was seriously expecting a lot more out of this series that what I am getting.

MOVIE:
I thought the movie was a lot better than reading the actual book. I would recommend skipping the reading and just watch the movies.
