My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Nesta Archeron, struggling to find her place as a High Fae after her forced transformation, carries the weight of her past and the losses of war. Cassian, a battle-scarred warrior, constantly clashes with Nesta, fueling both her temper and a growing attraction between them. As they are thrust into close proximity, their fiery connection intensifies.
Meanwhile, a perilous alliance among treacherous human queens poses a threat to the fragile peace across realms. To confront this danger, Cassian and Nesta must confront their own haunting pasts, potentially holding the key to halting the impending turmoil.
I really did not like Nesta in the first novels of this series. I thought she was spoiled and selfish and not even remotely good enough for Cassian, who I adored. Maas did a great job of taken a broken, unlikable character, having her realize it, and changing into a person someone could admire. I also like how the author is continuing the series. Readers rarely get to see the aftermath of the 'big' battle and how the fall out affects the characters. Everything just isn't a simple happy ending after the journey is over.
